Visual arts was larger than other programs in the earlier stage. Since we rebuilt the facilities to accommodate a theatre, theatre program occupied the lead position in our programming. However, visual arts continues to be a focal point.Art exhibitions, artist forum, artists association were within the scope of our Visual Arts. Showing of Chinese artists work was the mian purpose at first. Its goal was to expose viewers to the rich and
varied Chinese art with more emphasis on contemporary
Chinese artists. Asian American artists were introduced
in the exhibition schedule followed by all artists of excellence, regardless of ethnicity. The New England International Artists Association
was formed in 1998. In the same year we also started an international
artist-in-residence program.
We sometimes collaborate with other
arts organizations such as the Women's Caucus for
Arts, Boston Visual Artists Union, African American
Artists Association, Asian American Artists Association
among others, to organize shows. We also work with
arts institutions in Asia and Europe
Our curatorial committee consists
of an art historian, an artist, and an art critic.
Sometime guest curators are invited.
In 2000 we started the International
Artist-in-Resident Program. The Program sponsors artists
abroad to visit, work and exhibit in Boston.
