PERFORMING ARTS

          .

Our Performing Arts Program at first was focused mostly on presening Chinese music and dance and was closely associated with our Education Outreach and Cultural Outreach programs. Since 1995 theatre has beene a major focue. In 2001 music has become another major component with the establishment of the Tremont Music Series and the Boston Jazz Repertory Orchestra. The Theatre Department has a Companies-in-Residence program and a Production program.

We are interested in developing an equally strong dance program. Currently a Chinese dance company is being formed. We plan to have other kind of dance groups in residence. In the past we brought dance companies from Taiwan and invited Chinese opera company from New York to Perform in Boston. In those days such activities were first of its kind in Boston. In association with NACA (National Association of Chinese Americans,) we also invited dance groups from China to Boston. We also produced dance concerts with local talents. 1986 we formed Chinese Dance Troupe under the leadership of Zhu Ming Ying, a celebrated singer and dancer from China's most famous Eastern Music And Dance Company in Beijing. The Troupe performed widely throughout Massachusetts.
